PARENTING 101

As the parent of 3 lovely daughters, two of whom are grown, one of whom is almost grown, I recognize that parenting philosophies and techniques are as varied as the colors of the rainbow. At the same time, I recognize that one common thread that runs through all effective parenting methods is that the parents are the ones who make the rules. In other words, you do not let the inmates run the asylum.

Every now and then, I hear something so outlandish that I am unable to find words to adequately articulate my confusion. So I think that I will share with you this story from the "WTF?!?!! Files" and allow you to discuss amongst yourselves..... Look at it as a "WTF?!?!!" puzzle, ala "Where's Waldo", in which you have to identify the "crazy as hell" things in this story.....

Mother is a single parent with a teen-aged daughter. Daughter is blatantly disrespectful to the mother in word and deed. Daughter would accurately be categorized as a "wild child" for assorted reasons. Daughter wishes to have privacy at home, so she has installed a lock on her bedroom door to which she has the only key.

Daughter forgot something at home and said item was in her room (the one with the locked door to which she has the only key). So she called the mother. Mom drove to the school to get the key, returned to the house with instructions to "get my shit and don't touch any of my other shit" (to paraphrase). She retrieved the item, delivered it to the school and returned the key to the daughter.
